The backbone of our Clinical Decision Support and Risk Reduction solution starts with critically reviewed and carefully selected clinical literature. References for risk algorithms are derived from multiple journals, panel reports, as well as the entire reading list for the American Board of Emergency Medicine continuing certification.
Each risk algorithm or Occurrence, represents an accurate and faithful translation of the objective data from the literature. References have been chosen based on their applicability to high risk cases, overall clinical significance, and adaptability to objective documentation. veEDIS CareTRAK returns both the clinical logic and the original reference to the user, improving user acceptance.
The result is a tool whereby the most relevant medical literature and best practices are applied to each patient encounter. Much like a search engine returns results with the most relevant ranked first, veEDIS CareTRAKdisplays all Occurrences being considered for a patient with those "satisfied" or fully met, sorted to the top and in red (shown at right).
The result is a visual "risk meter" for each patient. The veEDIS CareTRAK library of content is broad, and includes cardiovascular, constitutional, critical care, endocrine, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, gynecologic, infectious disease, neurologic, otolaryngology, pediatric, psychiatric, pulmonary and trauma presentations, covering all patient encounters entailing risk.
|veEDIS CareTRAK "Smart Support"||Traditional Decision Support|
|Clinical Logic||Complex risk algorithms evaluate entire patient record against thousands of possible permutations to identify risk.||One dimensional logic triggers alerts from single documentation elements, results in alert fatigue.|
|Brings information to clinician||CareTRAK brings clinically significant items from the chart to the provider - eliminating concerns of "that wasn't on the physician's screen."||Alerts remain on whether warranted or not. Users quickly learn to ignore alerts.|
|Contextually Relevant Information||Because feedback to users is patient-specific, information presented is always useful and relevant.||Limited logic returns “one size fits all” information; rarely clinically useful and generally ignored.|
|Suggested Interventions||System provides suggested therapeutic interventions at critical points in care.||None.|
|Eliminates Alert fatigue||CareTRAK Smart Support logic turns off alerts when they are no longer clinically warranted - alerts mirror the condition of the patient.||Alerts remain on whether warranted or not. Users quickly learn to ignore alerts.|
|Reports||Summary and detailed reports designed for risk reduction and quality improvement.||None.|
Risk-event prompt alerts are available to the user should an intervention be warranted, or if discharge is selected for a patient manifesting significant clinical risk. Passive status board alerts allow rapid assessment of risk across the entire department population based on whether the veEDIS CareTRAK icon is absent, yellow or red - no risk, potential risk, high risk, respectively.
Patient conditions change, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. Either way, the Smart Support embedded in veEDIS CareTRAK risk algorithms appropriately assesses patient risk to trigger - or revert alerts for improving conditions.
Broadcast of risk events can be made to targeted personnel for high risk-events or for any patient satisfying a risk algorithm.
Reports provide continued risk management value even after the patient encounter is completed. Summary and detailed reports provide risk metrics and allow tracking of "risk profiles" for provider, department, or facility.
